The Lions praised Detroit fans for bringing a ‘sea of blue’ to Arrowhead Stadium
Shortly after the Lions’ 21-20 win Thursday night over the Chiefs, Detroit wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown jumped on social media.
On X (née Twitter), he tweeted about the strong showing from Lions fans at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
“I just tweeted, ‘Detroit fans showed out.’ I think they are my favorite fans since I have been playing ball,” St. Brown told reporters. “They travel well and support us through everything. I know the Lions history from the past hasn’t been the best, but they are still here. They are still supporting us. I love Detroit fans. You guys are the best.
“They showed up here, and they were loud, too. There was one point where they were shouting, ‘Let’s go Lions’ and it was loud enough for everyone to hear. That gets us going. I can’t wait to go back home in two weeks and see everyone against Seattle. It is going to be fun.”
St. Brown wasn’t alone in praising Lions fans, who celebrated in the stands after the game.
Quarterback Jared Goff believes those Lions fans helped the team.
“We love our fans. It seemed like they may have forced that false start at the end for Kansas City, which would be pretty impressive if so,” Goff told reporters. “It looked like it. They were loud when we were on defense and they were quiet when we were on offense. They helped us out there on defense.”
‘Sea of blue’
Lions coach Dan Campbell called it a “sea of blue” at Arrowhead, but also noted his team had some trouble with the noise from Chiefs fans.
“It is a loud place to play. When you are doing some of those silent counts, we did a lot of the fast motion stuff and there is a lot of timing that goes into that,” Campbell told reporters. “We had a couple of little issues there. You don’t want them to happen, but I wouldn’t say it was abnormal either. It was something we were able to overcome. I thought we were able to settle down and calm down and stay with it. All in all, I think we handled it pretty well. Now, do we need to be much better? We do.
“I know this, it is a tough environment to come play in. That is why I am excited to get back to Ford Field. You know how loud that is. It will be louder than this and this is a loud place. When I walked out in pregame and looked out to a sea of blue, I was like, ‘Wow.’ Then about the third quarter, I started to hear them. It started to grow as we got into the fourth quarter. They made themselves known. You could feel it. It is outstanding to have fans that travel like that. We see you and it is much appreciated.”
Rookie perspective
Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, the rookie from Alabama, said Arrowhead wasn’t the loudest stadium where he’s played.
“With the places we played last year, I can name a couple of places louder,” he told reporters. “It was definitely loud, but it was manageable.”
Veteran perspective
Wide receiver Kalif Raymond, who previously played with the Titans and Broncos, said the victory was special for him.
“I think this is my first win here, ever,” Raymond said. “I am glad to be a part of it with this team. This is a very tough place to play and to come out of here with a victory is amazing.”
“It is loud out there. He said there was going be cameras, the glitz, the glamour and all that stuff and at the end of the day just go play football and that’s what we had to do.”
