Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton shares story behind the viral ’Burrowhead’ comment
NFL Films has been sharing private conversations on football sidelines for decades, often shedding light on some cool moments.
If it were not for the seemingly ubiquitous NFL Films, we wouldn’t have one of the biggest talking points heading into Sunday’s AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium.
Well before the final gun ended Cincinnati’s 27-10 win at Buffalo in Sunday’s Divisional playoff game, the celebration was on for Bengals players.
NFL Films caught Bengals cornerbacks Mike Hilton, Eli Apple and Cam Taylor Britt in a playful mood on the sideline.
That’s when Hilton said: “We’ll see y’all in ‘Burrowhead’.”
Bengals players and fans have shared that play on Arrowhead Stadium’s name this week, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by the Chiefs.
Tight end Travis Kelce talked about it on his “New Heights” podcast this week.
“We are the loudest stadium in the world, on record, 142 decibels,” Kelce noted.
Eagles center Jason Kelce asked if the record was set in the win over the Jaguars (it wasn’t, of course).
“I don’t know, I don’t know,” Travis Kelce said. “Maybe we’re gonna have to break it this week because a lot of Cincinnati Bengals fans are calling it ‘Burrowhead’ instead of Arrowhead. They’re throwing a lot of bulletin-board material out there.”
Hilton was asked Wednesday about how he came up with the name, which is a play off Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
“I don’t know, really just popped to me on the sideline, man,” Hilton said. “I just knew we were going to Kansas City, and it’s Arrowhead. So I thought of my quarterback and called it ‘Burrowhead’.”
