Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes said his 1-year-old daughter is already flashing soccer skills
Two weeks after the birth of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ daughter, Sterling, she received a letter of intent to receive a soccer scholarship from Texas Tech.
It was a cute bit of self promotion by Tech ... or was it?
Sterling has soccer in her genes, because her mom, Brittany Mahomes, played professionally, and dad is a pretty good athlete, too.
Patrick Mahomes noted during an interview earlier this month on “The Rich Eisen Show” that Sterling, who turns 2 in February, already is playing with a soccer ball.
The interview began with Mahomes was asked by Eisen how things were going.
“Life’s good, man,” Mahomes said. “Obviously we’re in season, we’re rolling around. I got the little one at home now. She’s running around, playing sports, kicking soccer balls, doing stuff like that. And then I have a little one on the way. so life’s pretty good.”
Mahomes can’t wait for Sterling’s next birthday, simply because he won’t have to say her age in months.
“Once we got to a year and a half, I kind of just went ahead just said a year and a half and now ... she’s getting close to 2 here soon,” Mahomes said. “February’s her birthday so once you get to 2, there’s no more year and a half, it’s just 2, 3, 4, it’ll be easy on me.”
Eisen was amazed that Sterling was already kicking a ball at such a young age. He asked Mahomes if Sterling soon would be next to Megan Rapinoe on the pitch.
“You know Brittany is a co-owner of the women’s soccer team out here in Kansas City, the Kansas City Current, so we go to a lot of their games, we go to some of their practices,” Mahomes said.
“It was really cool to see that we didn’t even really teach Sterling how to kick a soccer ball. She just kind of saw one and went up and started kicking it. So now, every time she sees one, she does that and kind of dribbles it and just from watching those girls play. And so, it’s definitely really cool to see. Me, I don’t want to force her to be an athlete, but to see those tendencies early is definitely cool.”
Brittany Mahomes shared a photo on Instagram of Sterling at one of those Current practices.
