Tyreek Hill says he received death threats over comments about Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes
Former Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill spent part of the second episode of his “It Needed To Be Said” podcast talking about comments he made about quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the first show.
Hill, who was traded to the Dolphins this offseason, made waves by saying Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa was a more accurate passer than Mahomes. Episode two of the podcast was released Tuesday night, and Hill noted fans had threatened him over that assertion.
“By the way, I got death threats. Every social media account I own, I got death threats on,” Hill said Tuesday.
Hill added that people need to understand he wasn’t trying to slight Mahomes, but instead wanted to build up Tagovailoa.
“We all know Patrick Mahomes is great,” Hill said. “We know that. But right now, I’m going into a new season with a new quarterback who’s trying to head in the same direction as Patrick and do great things and lead this team to a Super Bowl championship — who’s also great, in my opinion. He just doesn’t have the accolades of yet. I believe in him.”
Hill also talked about the trade to the Dolphins. He said it wasn’t easy to move on from the Chiefs but he’s thinking about the financial security of his family.
“It’s tough leaving a situation like we had in Kansas City. Then you got one-five, arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the league. Top two, and he’s not two,” Hill said. “Then you got TK, Travis Kelce. And you got one of the best head coaches in the league, bro.
“And the defense was balling last year doing their thing, and then the rest of the superstars on offense, bro. So it’s tough leaving a situation like that, man. I’m just thinking 15 years from now, 20 years from now. I know I’m not supposed to be living that far out but I’m thinking about my kids’ livelihood.
“I’m thinking about how I grew up. It wasn’t rough, but it was tough. I’m thinking about my kids growing up, being able to do what they want to do. Being able to go to whatever college they want to go to. Being able to go to whatever store they want to go in and say. ‘Hey, I want this.’ As a kid, that was a dream for me. And I got four beautiful kids, and I’m here for them.”
