Mets fans went crazy because a rookie chose Super Mario Bros. theme as walk-up song
New York Mets fans got up from their seats during Sunday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks and began to cheer when outfielder Nick Plummer stepped to the plate.
Plummer is a rookie who was having his first major-league plate appearance, but that’s not why fans were on their feet. Although he’s the Mets’ No. 8 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, fans were responding to the walk-up music he chose.
It was the Super Mario Bros. theme song.
DJ Razor, the Mets’ team DJ shared this video of Plummer coming to the dish in the eighth inning.
“Do you know how much swag it takes to walk up to the plate for your first @MLB at bat to the Super Mario Theme song?” Plummer wrote on Twitter. “Haha great series win and debut weekend! Thank you @Mets fans for the love today, back at it tmro”
The Mets responded appropriately to that tweet:
A person at the game shared how the Mets fans responded to the Super Mario Bros. walk-up song.
Plummer, 25, lined out to center but it was still a memorable first time batting in the big leagues.
