Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes on how life has changed after becoming a husband and father
A year ago, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ daughter was roughly six weeks old, so he made the trip to the Masters in Augusta, Georgia.
Mahomes, 26, decided to stay home last week and watch the annual golf tournament with Sterling. And he made sure she was wearing green, which is the color of the jacket the Masters winner receives each year.
That green sippy cup was a nice touch.
Over the weekend, the family took in a Royals game, too, and Brittany shared photos on Instagram. Here is one of them:
Sterling’s first birthday was in February, and last month, Mahomes married his fiancee Brittany, in Hawaii.
A lot has changed for Mahomes in the five years that he’s been with the Chiefs.
In an interview with Yahoo Finance’s Brian Sozzi, Mahomes talked about life as a father and husband. He admitted being married with a baby means he’s no longer just living for himself. His response came after being asked about Sterling.
“She’s 13 months now so it definitely changes your life,” Mahomes said. “I mean, you have to really think about everything that you’re doing because you understand that it’s not only you. I mean I have a wife now, I have a baby girl who’s 13 months, and so everything I do is kind of for them.
“I mean, I can’t just be going out there and playing football and have no other thoughts about it. It’s about building a legacy, doing something special that one day I’ll be able to leave for my kids.”
This is the video, and the talk about his personal life comes around the 11 minute mark.
