Chiefs players have mostly remained silent since the news of the Chiefs pondering a potential move to a new stadium in Kansas.

One exception is linebacker Willie Gay Jr., who made his thoughts known on Twitter. He wrote: “Give it about 8 more years before moving the stadium to Kansas, I’m a Missouri boy

Although the vast majority of responses to the tweet were from people who agreed with Gay, that message didn’t endear him to some fans on the Kansas side of the state line. Here’s a sample of what they said.

Gay later explained his reasoning while responding to a fan from Kansas.

“Lol Kansas on my bad side iykyk,” Gay wrote.

For those unaware, the meaning of iykyk is “if you know you know,” and Gay may have been referencing his arrest in January for criminal damage to property at an Overland Park apartment.

That fan from Kansas said he was unhappy with the emoji choice in Gay’s first tweet about the Sunflower State, and the Chiefs star apologized, writing: “my bad my man it’s all love

Gay mentioned he hoped it would be about eight years before the Chiefs moved to Kansas if that’s what ends up happening. And, well, he should be fine. The Chiefs’ lease at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium expires in 2031, which is nine years away.
