For Pete's Sake

Chiefs’ Willie Gay had a perfect response to splashy moves made by AFC West opponents

Has an NFL division ever had a whirlwind two-week period that could match what we’ve seen in the AFC West?

The Denver Broncos started the frenzy with a stunning trade for Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson on March 8. No one could have guessed at the time it would be just the start of a wild set of transactions just by AFC West teams.

Two days later, the Chargers swung a deal to acquire Bears pass-rush specialist Khalil Mack. LA then agreed to $120 million worth of contracts with three defensive studs — cornerback J.C. Jackson and defensive tackles Sebastian Joseph-Day and Austin Johnson — on Monday.

That same day, the Broncos agreed to a three-year, $30 million deal with defensive lineman D.J. Jones. On Tuesday, Denver signed defensive end Randy Gregory away from the Dallas Cowboys. He’ll be paid $70 million over five years.

The Raiders on Wednesday gave outside linebacker Chandler Jones a three-year, $51 million deal, then pulled off a shocker of their own Thursday. trading for Packers wide receiver Davante Adams, and giving him a five-year, $141.25 million contract.

For the last two weeks, AFC West teams have dominated the news cycle.

What do the Chiefs think of all of this? One player, linebacker Willie Gay Jr., had a perfect response, writing on Twitter after the Adams trade: “All this just to beat them boys in Red!!#ChiefsKingdom”

The beefed-up AFC West has been a hot topic on Twitter all week, and its led to some really fun memes being shared.

Here are a few of them.
