Dallas Cowboys forced to delete tweet after player changes mind and signs with Broncos
We have our first comical moment of this year’s NFL free-agency madness.
Well, they may not be laughing in Texas.
On Tuesday morning, the Cowboys tweeted the news that defensive end Randy Gregory was coming back to play for Dallas after agreeing to a five-year contract.
Just like Texas Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted his congratulations to the Astros for defeating the Royals in the 2015 American League Division Series, the Cowboys had jumped the gun.
Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News soon reported the deal between the Cowboys and Gregory was not a done deal.
Shortly after the Cowboys tweeted their big news, the Denver Broncos tweeted this:
Denver didn’t tag the Cowboys in the tweet, but it was clear that GIF was partially in response to Dallas’ tweet.
Yep, the Broncos swooped in and signed Gregory away from the Cowboys. What happened?
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported “Dallas insisted on contract language that Gregory did not like.” And that’s how Gregory ended up with the Broncos.
Former ESPN reporter Ed Werder tweeted Dallas “attempted to change (the) contract after agreement.”
