Here is who national experts are predicting will win KC Chiefs-Dallas Cowboys game
Three years ago on Friday, the Chiefs lost 54-51 to the Rams on “Monday Night Football,” one of just a handful of NFL games to break the century mark in terms of total points.
Could we see another barn burner Sunday when the Cowboys, who have the highest-scoring offense in the NFL, visit Arrowhead Stadium?
NFL writers and broadcasters aren’t expecting that level of a shootout, but many think it’ll be a high-scoring affair. As for the outcome, a majority of these 69 pundits see the Cowboys winning the game, which kicks off at 3:25 p.m. and will be broadcast on WDAF (Ch. 4).
A 30-27 Cowboys victory is the prediction from Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com. Here is a passage from his story: “Even if Kansas City’s offense is on its way back, there’s no chance I trust it more than this Dallas attack. The Cowboys’ weapons have dominated all year; the Chiefs were dominant for one game. The return of Michael Gallup — and possibly left tackle Tyron Smith this Sunday — makes the ‘Boys even more fearsome, and their defense has also been far better all season than the surging Chiefs’ unit.”
A 31-28 Chiefs win is the call from Bill Bender of the Sporting News. Here is part of his story: “The Chiefs have rediscovered their mojo after victories against the Raiders and Packers. Kansas City has a +3 turnover ratio in those games. Dallas, meanwhile, is trying to keep up for the top seed in the NFC. (Chiefs quarterback Patrick) Mahomes and (Dallas’ Dak) Prescott will put on a show, but we’re sticking with the home team.”
Five the eight writers for CBS Sports picked the Chiefs to win: Pete Prisco, Jason LaCanfora, John Breech, Will Brinson,Jared Dubin and Jamey Eisenberg. Going with the Cowboys are Ryan Wilson Dave Richard and John Breech. Prisco predicted a 34-30 final score. Here is an excerpt of what he wrote: “This past Sunday night, Mahomes got the offense back to what we expected to see before the season. That will carry over here. The Cowboys will score their points as well since the Chiefs defense still isn’t great, so look for a high-scoring game with the Chiefs coming out on top.”
A 34-31 Dallas win is the prediction from Yardbarker’s Chris Mueller. This is from his story: “If Mahomes continues to take what defenses give him – he didn’t throw an interception for the second-straight game — and is willing to be patient in marching Kansas City down the field, it’s reasonable to assume that the Chiefs will again be nearly impossible to stop.”
Six of the the eight Athletic writers forecast a Dallas victory: Mark Kaboly, Michael-Shawn Dugar, Chris Burke, Tashan Reed, Katherine Terrell and Nick Kosmider. Picking the Chiefs are Jay Morrison and Ben Standig. This is a passage from the Athletic story: “Speaking of the Chiefs, it would appear that whatever curse was affecting the offense has been lifted. Kansas City boat-raced the Raiders 41-14 in Las Vegas, racking up 516 yards at a clip of 6.8 per play. Patrick Mahomes roared back to life with 406 passing yards, and five touchdowns as Travis Kelce and Darrel Williams each went over 100 yards receiving while Tyreek Hill caught a pair of touchdowns. Kansas City took over first place in the AFC West with the win.”
A Cowboys victory is the prediction from the two Pro Football Talk writers. Michael David Smith forecast a 24-23 score. He wrote: “The Chiefs looked very good against the Raiders on Sunday night, but I just think the Cowboys are the better team.” Mike Florio predicted a 30-24 score. He wrote: “The Cowboys would be regarded as the best team in the league but for their Week Nine step-on-a-rake game against the Broncos. Dallas won’t step on a rake against the former AFL team that used to be in Dallas.”
Dallas will prevail say the four writers at the Cowboys team site: Rob Phillips (27-24 final score), David Hellman (41-37), Nick Eatman (38-28) and Kyle Youmans. Here is a portion of what Youmans wrote: “Both teams have the attack, but which has the better defense? Dallas has forced more turnovers, allowed less yardage, and provided more pressure. Even with the game being in Arrowhead, I think the offense keeps their rhythm while the defense just makes a few more plays than the Chiefs do. Give me Dallas winning 38-34 in a classic.”
A 43-40 Chiefs win is the prediction from Ben Rolfe of Pro Football Network. This is an excerpt from his story: “We have two good offenses against two less-than-stellar defenses. This feels very much like a game where 40 points might not be enough for one team and the over is very much in play.”
Six of 10 pundits at ESPN see the Cowboys winning: Emmanuel Acho, Mike Clay, Jeremy Fowler, Domonique Foxworth, Dan Graziano and Laura Rutledge. Going with the Chiefs are Kevin Seifert, Matt Bowen, Rob Ninkovich and Seth Wickersham.
Six of the 10 members of the Dallas Morning-News see the Cowboys winning: Tim Cowlishaw, Michael Gehlken, Dana Larson, Newy Scruggs, Kevin Sherrington and David Moore. Picking the Chiefs: Damon Marx, Craig Miller, Jean-Jacques Taylor and Calvin Watkins.
Four of seven writers at USA Today see the Chiefs prevailing: Jarrett Bell (31-30 final score), Nate Davis (25-24), Mike Jones (33-29) and Mike Middlehurst-Schwartz (35-28). The picks for Dallas: Jori Epstein (31-30), Mike Freeman (27-25) and Lorenzo Reyes (33-25).
A Chiefs victory is the call from four of Audacy’s five writers: Jordan Cohn, Jesse Pantuosco, John Healy and Dan Mennella. The pick for Dallas: Tim Kelly.
The Cowboys will win, say three of the four Athlon Sports writers: Bryan Fischer, Rob Doster and Aaron Wilson. The pick for the Chiefs: Ben Weinrib.
A Dallas victory is the prediction from the three of four Sports Illustrated writers: Conor Orr, Gary Grammling and Jenny Vrentas. The lone pick for the Chiefs came from Mitch Goldich.
The Chiefs will win, says three writers for The Star: Herbie Teope (35-31 final score), Sam McDowell (31-27) and Vahe Gregorian (31-27).
