Here’s what Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes will order at Whataburger now that it’s open
As expected, there were long lines Monday outside of the new Whataburger in Lee’s Summit, the first of what is expected to be more than 30 locations, from Wichita to St. Joseph, for the fast-food restaurant chain.
In a way, this is the result of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ love of ketchup becoming public knowledge in 2018.
At the time, Mahomes said in a news conference that his favorite brand of ketchup was served at Whataburger. Fast forward three years and Mahomes is part of a group that will operate 30 of the locations in the Kansas City region.
Mahomes won’t only be on the ownership side of many of the new Whataburger locations. He also plans to get a meal or 20.
“I’m excited, for sure. I definitely have this date marked down in my calendar,” Mahomes said on his weekly radio show on KCSP (Sports Radio 610 AM). “I already saw the line is pretty crazy, so I’m going to have to wait a couple of days before I go there. I’m definitely excited to get a burger and some fries and that ketchup for sure.”
Mahomes was asked by Carrington Harrison if he has a special meal. Two orders are among his favorites, and his fiancée, Brittany Matthews, has a must-have item.
“It kind of depends. There are several different things I get. I’ve gone there a lot in my life,” Mahomes said. “So obviously I get just the No. 1 with cheese, ketchup, pickles only, with a large fry and large Coke. But they also have this thing on Texas toast, a barbecue chicken strip sandwich which I like a lot, and Brittany always makes us get the honey butter chicken biscuits in the morning.”
