For Pete's Sake

Former Mizzou star Kim English got soaked after his first win as George Mason’s coach

Kim English tried to avoid it, but there was simply no way he wasn’t going to get wet after winning in his debut.

English, the former Mizzou star, got his first win as a head coach on Tuesday night as George Mason defeated Stony Brook 74-52 in Fairfax, Virginia.

“I was real excited,” English told WDVM-TV. “Not much different from when I was a player. I thought it was a great first game for our group.”

As a player from 2008-12, English helped Mizzou win two Big 12 Tournaments and the Tigers won 107 games in that span. After college, English was drafted by the Pistons and played one season in Detroit.

English was an assistant coach at Tennessee and Colorado before being hired at George Mason.

After Tuesday’s victory in the season opener, English opened the door to George Mason’s locker room and initially tried to back out. But there was no way that was going to happen, even if the Patriots players were waiting with water to celebrate their coach’s debut victory.

And, thus, English ended up soaking wet — but with a big grin on his face.
