For Pete's Sake

Ex-Chiefs QB Alex Smith will be at Arrowhead Stadium for ‘Monday Night Football’

For the first time since Jan. 6, 2018, Alex Smith will take the field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Smith retired after last season with Washington, so he won’t suit up for the Chiefs’ game against the New York Giants on “Monday Night Football.” He was hired by ESPN in a hybrid role, and that’s the team he’ll be with.

ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” crew usually is on the field before a game on the network, so Smith will join Suzy Kolber, Randy Moss, Booger McFarland and Steve Young on that program.

There seems little doubt that Smith will be asked about the Chiefs, the team he played for from 2013-17. And it’s likely when Chiefs fans see Smith on the field, he’ll receive a big cheer.

For those watching at home, Steve Levy, Brian Griese, Louis Riddick and Lisa Salters are calling the game per usual for ESPN. The game will also air on KMBC (Ch. 9).

Former NFL quarterbacks Eli and Peyton Manning are doing the show during the game, and that will air on ESPN2. Among the guest scheduled to join the Manning brothers are former “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart, Bills quarterback Josh Allen and former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin.

Last week, Irvin said the Chiefs will miss the playoffs and they no longer scare opponents.
