Former Royals manager Buddy Bell once noted after a particularly tough loss: “I never say it can’t get worse.”

But as they watched quarterback Patrick Mahomes being helped from the field Sunday following a big hit in Tennessee’s 27-3 win, Chiefs fans probably couldn’t have imagined how things could be worse.

The Chiefs’ record dropped to 3-4 and are in last place in the AFC West. There are 10 games remaining in the 2021 season, so there is plenty of time for the Chiefs to reverse their fortunes.

And this will be the second postseason with a seven-team field.

Can the two-time defending AFC champions get things figured out this season in time to make the playoffs? Or are the problems on both sides of the ball too much to overcome?
