For Pete's Sake

Here is the moment Royals’ Alex Gordon left the field for the final time

There were plenty of hugs at Kauffman Stadium on Sunday.

Alex Gordon was in left field at the start of the second inning when Royals manager Mike Matheny emerged from the dugout to make a change.

Whit Merrifield ran to left field and hugged Gordon, who was making the final appearance of his 14-season big-league career in the season finale against the Tigers. Gordon hugged a number of players on the field, finishing with catcher Salvador Perez.

But the congratulatory greetings didn’t end there. As his family cheered from a box, Gordon was embraced at the dugout by even more teammates, then descended the steps and his career was over.
