‘I’m there to watch football.’ Chiefs superfan X-Factor says he’ll skip next game
The Chiefs’ next home game will be a big one.
Even though Tom Brady left the team, the New England Patriots are expected to be in the running for a 12th AFC East title. They will be at Arrowhead Stadium on Oct. 4.
But one well-known Chiefs fan announced on Twitter that he would skip the game and wasn’t sure when he would return to Arrowhead.
Ty Rowton, better known as X-Factor, wrote on Twitter: “My streak of 329 games at Arrowhead will come to end. Xfactor wont go back until full capacity happens. I’m there to watch football not having social issues force feed by NFL”
Rowton, who is a visible presence at Arrowhead Stadium, was chosen for Visa’s “Hall of Fans” in 2004.
Here is what Rowton, who lives in Bonner Springs, tweeted:
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chiefs are allowing just 22% for home games.
Although Rowton didn’t state this as the precise reason for skipping the next game, the NFL had a moment of unity and the “Black National Anthem” was played before Thursday’s game. Messages of social justice were in the end zones and on player helmets.
Rowton has expressed displeasure with other moves the Chiefs have made. He told the Associated Press changes regarding Native American culture are an “overreaction.”
The Chiefs are banning headdresses and face painting, while trying an alternate version of the “Arrowhead Chop” at the stadium.
The “Arrowhead Chop,” Rowton told the Associated Press is “something that gets us riled up together and that we do as one. It has never been meant to be disrespectful.”
