Fantasy football outlooks for five of the Chiefs’ top offensive players
With the NFL season set to start in fewer than two weeks, fantasy football drafts will be taking place soon.
The Chiefs have one of the most potent offenses in the NFL and a number of Kansas City players are likely to be drafted.
Here’s a bit of what’s being said about five Chiefs players, along with their rankings in: the Sporting News’ top 200, a list from ESPN’s Matthew Berry, NESN.com’s top 100, and from a trio of CBS Sports fantasy writers (non PPR).
Wide receiver Tyreek Hill
This summer, Hill said his goal for the 2020 season is 2,000 receiving yards, which would be an NFL record. Whether or not Hill attains that goal, he’s still a good bet to go early in most drafts.
NESN.com has Hill ranked No. 9.
The Sporting News placed Hill 11th.
Heath Cummings of CBS Sports ranked Hill at No. 12
Dave Richard of CBS Sports had Hill at No. 14
ESPN’s Berry put Hill at 15th.
Tight end Travis Kelce
Fan Duel said Kelce would be a good pick in the mid-to-late second round in most drafts. Max Staley wrote: “But he’s definitely worth it — having Kelce is essentially like having another WR1 in your lineup. He’s averaged 275.5 PPR points per year across his two seasons with Patrick Mahomes at the helm, and that would’ve made him the WR4 in 2019.”
Heath Cummings of CBS Sports had Kelce at No. 11.
ESPN’s Berry placed Kelce at 17th overall.
NESN.com has Kelce ranked 22nd overall.
Kelce is 28th in the Sporting News rankings.
Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire
Mike Tagliere of Fantasy Pros had Edwards-Helaire on his list of “must-have fantasy football players.”
This is part of what he wrote: “He was my No. 1 running back in this year’s draft class because I thought his skill set best-suited today’s NFL. So, when I watched him get drafted in the first round, to the league’s best offense, with a head coach who’s continually produced RB1s, I get excited.“
ESPN’s Berry put Edwards-Helaire at No. 6.
Jamey Eisenberg of CBS Sports also had Edwards-Helaire at No. 6.
Edwards-Helaire is ranked 14th by the Sporting News.
NESN.com has Edwards-Helaire ranked No. 20 overall.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes
The Super Bowl MVP and 2018 NFL MVP is only 24 years old, so most fantasy football owners (better) know about the Chiefs quarterback. But where to draft Mahomes? Here’s a bit of what people were saying:
NESN.com had Mahomes ranked 23rd overall and the top quarterback.
Dave Richard of CBS Sports had Mahomes at No. 25, and the top quarterback.
Mahomes is 26th in Sporting News’ rankings, right behind Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson.
ESPN’s Berry put Mahomes at No. 27, one spot behind Jackson.
Wide receiver Mecole Hardman
Pro Football Focus put Hardman on its list of most overvalued fantasy football players by round. Hardman was No. 8.
“The future for Mecole Hardman looks bright, just not in 2020,” PFF wrote. “There are too many Chiefs players who will see more targets than Hardman. Tyreek Hill is the top wide receiver, and tight end Travis Kelce just signed a contract extension, so he also isn’t leaving Kansas City anytime soon.”
Here are a few other rankings for Hardman:
Dave Richard of CBS Sports put Hardman at No. 122.
The Sporting News had Hardman at No. 126.
ESPN’s Berry put Hardman ranked 127th
Noteworthy: The Sporting News had running back Darwin Thompson ranked 96th. ESPN put the Chiefs defense at No. 148 overall. Dave Richard of CBS Sports had Sammy Watkins at No. 163.
