Chiefs’ Tyreek Hill will give up ‘Cheetah’ nickname if he loses race to Miami player
Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill is ready to put his nickname where his mouth is.
Hill, who goes by “Cheetah,” visited the “Getcha Popcorn Ready” podcast last week and was asked if there was another NFL player he wanted to race.
The answer: Dolphins running back Matt Breida, whose nickname is also Cheetah.
“I’m gonna bet him,” Hill said. “If he beats me, I’m going to change my Twitter, my IG name ... from Cheetah and he can have it. Because supposedly his name is Cheetah too, and he can have it.”
It was just a general offer to race, but that would be fun to see.
Hill also said on the podcast that he has set a high bar for the 2020 season. Hill wants his final total to be 2,000 receiving yards, something no one has accomplished in NFL history.
Former Lions star Calvin Johnson holds the single-season with 1,964 yards receiving in the 2012 season. Hill would like to bump Johnson down to No. 2.
“One of my goals is, in all of my YouTube videos, I’ve been saying I want to get 2,000 receiving yards,” Hill said on the “Getcha Popcorn Ready” podcast. “That’s like a whole other level. That’s like Mamba mentality though for me. I’ve got to stay locked in. I’ve got to get the proper rest. I’ve got to put the right things in my body. For the game, it’s going to be easy then. That’s been my main goal and my main thing this year.”
Hill had the 57th best season in NFL history when he had 1,479 yards in 87 receptions in 2018. That is the only year in which Hill has started all 16 games for the Chiefs.
Last year, injuries limited Hill to 12 games and he had 860 receiving yards. He added another 213 yards in the playoffs.
Missing time was tough on Hill.
“Being hurt is like the worst thing — I swear it is, man, because you’re like inside by yourself when everybody else is practicing,” Hill told co-hosts Terrell Owens and Matthew Hatchette. “During game day, you see guys out there running the wrong route you’re like, ‘Man, if I’d been out there I’d have scored.’
“Two thousand yards for me, man. I ain’t gonna say the touchdowns, but 2,000 yards.”
