Marlins Man cutout at Kauffman Stadium draws mixed reaction from Royals fans
The Marlins Man era began at Kauffman Stadium.
During the 2014 World Series, baseball fans watching on television took note of the guy in orange among a sea of blue. That was Laurence Leavy but he’s better known by the Marlins Man moniker.
Leavy has returned many times to Kauffman Stadium and donated money to the Kansas City fire and police departments in the past. Around the nation, he is known for showing up all year at big games, no matter the sport, in that orange jersey and visor.
But with no fans at games since March, Leavy has been out of sight. Until now.
The Action Network reported Leavy reached out to every Major League Baseball team saying he would pay $1,000 to have his cutout in view behind home plate. That’s significantly more than the $40 paid by Royals season-ticket holders to have their likeness in the seats that are empty because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Royals agreed, and that’s why fans watching on Fox Sports Kansas City will see Marlins Man during games at Kauffman Stadium.
