Tyreek Hill says Chiefs are chasing Michael Jordan-type success
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill was on ESPN’s “First Take” on Thursday and was asked about a boast teammate Chris Jones had made.
While talking last week to KSCP (610 AM), Jones said the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV victory was just the start.
“Be prepared to have another parade and another parade and another parade,” Jones said. We’re going to make sure we bring not one, not two, not three, not four, but five-plus rings to Kansas City. It’s been 50 years of waiting ... but the wait is over now and it’s time to create a dynasty.”
Whew. Five championships seems like a lofty goal, particularly in the NFL. That’s why Hill was asked about what Jones had said.
Hill doubled down on that promise and said the Chiefs are chasing more than titles. They want to the kind of lasting success that Michael Jordan and the Bulls had in the 1990s.
It seems Hill watched the “Last Dance” documentary on ESPN earlier this year.
“Well, I’m not gonna say he’s telling a fib, you know?” Hill said on “First Take.” “But Chris Jones, he’s definitely a man of his word, and we’re definitely creating something special here in KC, so I don’t see why not. Why say five? Why not go seven rings? Right now we’re just chasing Jordan, so that’s what we do. So I’m going over five, and I’m saying seven.”
Jordan and the Bulls won six titles in an eight-year span and are one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history. The Patriots won six Super Bowls but it was over an 18-year span, so perhaps that’s why Hill mentioned Jordan’s name.
Or it could be because Jordan is still well known, despite not playing in 17 years.
Whatever the case, ESPN’s Max Kellerman asked how the Chiefs balance a goal of being a dynasty without looking past each week’s opponent.
“We’ll just take it one game at a time. I feel like we’ll just be patient and play chess with the game of football as we’ve been doing throughout the course of the year, we’ll be all right,” Hill said.
“I feel like looking forward and setting those goals, and just say ... those are just goals that we want. We’re just basically trying to speak it into existence.”
Here is the interview:
Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, who won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, heard about Hill’s goal.
