Highlights of new Royals outfielder Franchy Cordero, including a 489-foot homer
Well, Royals’ batting practice should be fun.
On Thursday night, the Royals acquired outfielder Franchy Cordero and pitcher Ronald Bolaños from the Padres in a trade that sent left-hander Tim Hill to San Diego.
Cordero, 25, missed most of the last two seasons because of injuries, but he has flashed what the San Diego Union-Tribune said is five-tool skills.
“It was difficult dealing Franchy for a lot of reasons,” Padres General Manager A.J. Preller told the Union-Tribune. “He came up through the Padres organization. He’s an A-plus person. … Having those conversations is never easy.”
Here are highlights of Cordero that show what he is capable of doing in the majors.
Let’s start with the biggest of Cordero’s big flies. It was a mammoth 489-foot blast in 2018 against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field. Statcast has the particulars:
Cordero flashed the leather with this catch against the Brewers:
When he arrives in Kansas City, Cordero can ask Ryan O’Hearn about this play:
Cordero’s speed was on display here:
OK, let’s get back to the home runs. The exit velocity on this home run against former Royals left-hander Jason Vargas was 116.9 mph:
And this was a 449-foot home run against the Nationals:
Royals outfielder Jorge Soler has hit some bombs as well, so he and Cordero could put on a show during batting practice.
