Royals used fake fan noise at Wednesday’s intrasquad game. Here’s what it sounds like

Well, Royals left-hander Danny Duffy’s days of holding a conversation with his center fielder while on the mound appear to be over.

Royals manager Mike Matheny had hoped Major League Baseball would allow teams to use piped-in fan sounds to cover the things players say on the field. He got his wish as the Royals experimented with the artificial fan noise during Wednesday’s intrasquad game at Kauffman Stadium.

The “crowd” cheered a bit more during base hits or when someone reached on an error.

It’ll take some getting used to, but it seems artificial noise is here to stay for Royals games while fans aren’t allowed into Kauffman Stadium because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
