Chiefs pay homage to liquor store clerk who broke news of Patrick Mahomes’ deal
The Chiefs hope to repeat their champagne consumption/spillage every February for the foreseeable future.
But they’ve had reason to pop a few corks in the month of July. The first time came when quarterback Patrick Mahomes agreed to a 10-year extension that could pay him up to $503 million.
To celebrate, the Chiefs bought six bottles of Dom Perignon at Plaza Liquor. Katie Camlin, who works at the store put two and two together and surmised a Mahomes extension was in the works.
Camlin tweeted the news and scooped NFL insiders Adam Schefter, Ian Rapoport and Terez Paylor.
The Chiefs paid homage to Camlin on Thursday with a video that shows a Chiefs employee walk into the liquor store and get six bottles of champagne from Camlin, who then tweets the team must have signed Chris Jones (which happened this week).
It’s a fun video the Chiefs call the bubbly order “The Brett Veach Special:”
Patrick Mahomes got a laugh out of the video:
Camlin, too:
Schefter tweeted about it:
So did Rapoport:
