A liquor store employee scooped everyone on Patrick Mahomes’ extension with Chiefs

Shortly after 2 p.m. on Monday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter did what he often does: share breaking NFL news.

This was a big story, too: the Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes had agreed on a 10-year extension.

Thing is, Schefter didn’t have it first. That honor belonged to Katie Camlin, a liquor store employee who tweeted at 12:21 p.m.: “A front office employee for the Chiefs came in and bought six bottles of Dom Perignon. Camlin later deleted the tweet, out of nervousness about doing something wrong. Here is the screenshot:

After Schefter tweeted the news, Camlin shared this message:

She also was nervous about doing something inappropriate, but likely gave the store a lot of free publicity.

Camlin’s story shows the power of social media and how a story can break from an unlikely source.
