Chiefs players aren’t leading at celebrity golf tourney, but no one is having more fun
By the end of the second round of the American Century Championship celebrity tournament, it was clear Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce weren’t going to end the weekend atop the leader board.
Neither player seemed to mind. They were having too much fun playing together.
Kelce and Mahomes were grouped Saturday with comedian/actor Rob Riggle, a KU graduate who is a co-host of the annual “Big Slick” weekend.
Mahomes finished the day at minus-4 and tied for 46th place with former MLB player Jimmy Rollins, while Kelce was at negative-12 tied for 53rd with ex-Broncos running back Terrell Davis. Those scores aren’t in relation to par, unfortunately.
The tournament’s scoring system gives points for pars, birdies and eagles, while taking away points for bogeys and worse at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Nevada.
Former tennis player Mardy Fish is the leader at 55 points, followed by former Bills offensive lineman Kyle Williams (52). So the Chiefs stars have a lot of ground to make up in Sunday’s final round.
But if the tournament gave points for fun, Mahomes and Kelce would have killed it on Saturday.
At one point, Mahomes sneaked up on Kelce and hit him with a huge pine cone:
Mahomes also playfully jumped on Kelce’s back:
Riggle shared these photos of Mahomes and Kelce on Instagram:
For Sunday’s final round, Mahomes and Kelce will be in a group with Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel. Any one want to guess what they might talk about?
The final round will be shown on KSHB (Ch. 41) starting at 2 p.m.
