New Chargers cornerback Chris Harris believes they have the defense to win AFC West
Cornerback Chris Harris jumped ships in the AFC West, leaving the Broncos for the Chargers as a free agent.
Harris, who was part of Denver’s Super Bowl 50 championship team, had been linked to the Chiefs by at least one analyst. While that didn’t happen, Harris is well aware of the dynamic in the division.
The Chargers were a media darling last offseason, with many expecting LA to supplant the Chiefs atop the West. Instead, the Chargers finished last in division while the Chiefs won the Super Bowl.
They are clearly top dogs.
On Thursday, Harris was interviewed on the NFL Network and said his goal is to win a Super Bowl with the Chargers. He was then asked about the landscape of the AFC West, particularly the Chiefs.
Harris, a four-time Pro Bowler, believes the Chargers defense, which was sixth in the NFL last season, could be the difference this fall.
“It’s always tough when you play the Chiefs, but I know we’ve got a defense that definitely should be in the top and you’ve got to be able to slow them down,” Harris said. “I know we’ve got offensive guys with Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, (Austin) Ekeler, Hunter Henry, so I know we’ve got talent on offense, and we’ll figure out what we’re gonna do that way.
“But I know (with) defense, we’ve got definitely a chance to win the AFC West.”
