As home team in Super Bowl LIV, Chiefs will go traditional route with their uniforms

If you’re searching for a good omen ahead of Super Bowl LIV, look to the Chiefs uniforms.

NFL.com reported the Chiefs will be the home team for the game because the league alternates each year. That means the Chiefs had first pick on uniforms.

They will wear their red jerseys and white pants, while the 49ers will have white jerseys and gold pants, which is their usual road look. NFL.com said that 49ers fans had hoped the team would be in all-white uniforms.

In their two playoff games this season, the Chiefs have been in the red jerseys/white pants combination and that’s what they wore in Super Bowl IV, which they won. In Super Bowl I, the Chiefs wore all white and lost.

Patrick Mahomes showed off the Chiefs’ jersey in a Twitter post from the team.

Sportslogos.net said the Chiefs and 49ers have played seven times in these uniform combinations, with Kansas City winning fives consecutive meetings, including the game at Arrowhead Stadium on Sept. 23, 2018.

The stakes will be just a tad bigger on Feb. 2.

There is one untraditional note about the Chiefs Super Bowl uniforms.

The Super Bowl patch will be worn on the Chiefs’ right side, Sportslogos noted, the first team since the Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII to wear the Super Bowl logo on that side. That’s because the Chiefs wear their AFL patch on the left side.
