For Pete's Sake

After election to Hall of Fame, Bill Cowher gave a shout-out to Marty Schottenheimer

Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher got a happy surprise Saturday while working on the CBS Sports pregame show.

Cowher learned he had been elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame while on the air.

Cleveland.com said Cowher was selected by “a blue-ribbon panel as part of the NFL’s Centennial Slate, one of two coaches who will be selected by the panel.”

Here is how he found out:

Cowher gave thanks to Dan Rooney, who had hired Cowher in Pittsburgh, and current Chiefs coach Andy Reid:

In 1992, Rooney hired Cowher, who had been the Chiefs’ defensive coordinator under head coach Marty Schottenheimer. While head coach of the Browns, Schottenheimer first hired Cowher after his playing days were over.

That’s why Cowher gave Schottenheimer a shout-out as well:

Schottenheimer, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, lives in North Carolina.
