For Pete's Sake

Here is who national experts are predicting will win Chiefs-Broncos game

Oh, the weather outside will be frightful Sunday afternoon.

At least that’s what the forecasters are saying, and that means the Chiefs’ game at Arrowhead Stadium against the Broncos will be played in the snow.

Will that give one team an advantage? We’ll find out.

Fifty-one experts from around the nation made predictions for the game, and all were made before it became apparent snow would be falling.

Here are the picks and what the pundits are saying about the game, which kicks off at noon and will be shown on CBS (Ch. 5):

All of the eight CBS Sports experts predicted a Chiefs victory: Ryan Wilson, Jason La Canfora, John Breech, Dave Richard, Pete Prisco, Jared Dubin, Jamey Eisenberg and Will Brinson. Prisco predicted a 27-14 Chiefs win. Here is part of what wrote: “The Broncos impressed last week beating the Texans on the road as Drew Lock had a big game. This will be a tougher test for him in a tough place for quarterbacks to play.”

The Chiefs will win 27-21 writes Tadd Haislop of the Sporting News. This is part of what he wrote: “Good news for Denver: Its offense is on a hot streak with Drew Lock being the spark. Bad news for Denver: Kansas City’s offense is even warmer, even after New England’s attempt to cool Patrick Mahomes and Co. last week. With the division title already in hand, the Chiefs are hungry to secure one of the top two seeds in the AFC playoffs.”

A 28-17 Chiefs victory is the prediction from Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com. Here is an excerpt of what he wrote: “Mahomes was battling an ankle injury even before he dislocated his kneecap when these AFC West rivals first played. Now he’s dealing with a hand issue. If Mahomes is not right, the fighting Vic Fangios are plenty capable of making the home crowd sweat in the cold.”

All 10 experts at ESPN see the Chiefs winning: Matt Bowen, Mike Clay, Mike Golic, Louis Riddick, Jason Reid, Trey Wingo, Mina Kimes, Seth Wickersham, Dan Graziano and Kevin Seifert.

The Chiefs were the pick for both Mike Florio and Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. Smith forecast a 30-20 final score. This is what he wrote: “Drew Lock has played very well for the Broncos, but it won’t be enough to overcome Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, who are still fighting for a first-round playoff bye.” Florio predicted a 30-23 score and wrote: “The Chiefs had better beat the Broncos while they can. By next year, it will be a much tougher outcome to achieve.”

Each of the six Sports Illustrated Monday Morning Quarterback writers picked the Chiefs: Kayln Kahler, Mitch Goldich, Andrew Brandt, Bette Marston, Connor Orr and Jenny Vrentas.

All eight Pro Football Focus experts picked the Chiefs: Neil Hornsby, Bruce Gradkowski, Jeff Ratcliffe, Solomon Wilcots, Sam Monson, Nathan Jahnke, Austin Gayle and Steve Palazzolo.

All eight SB Nation writers are picking the Chiefs: Christian D’Andrea, Sarah Hardy, Morgan Moriarty, Geoff Schwartz, Adam Stites, Stephen White, James Brady and Bradley Smith

All seven experts from USA Today picked the Chiefs: Jarrett Bell (27-17 final score), Nate Davis (27-20), Jori Epstein (21-17), Mike Jones (28-21), Mike Middlehurst-Schwartz (31-23), Lorenzo Reyes (29-24), and Tom Schad (24-21).
