When will snow start in KC and how will it affect the Chiefs game? Find out here.
Kansas City Chiefs fans could be in for an icy trek home from Arrowhead Stadium Sunday as winter weather is expected to move into the area around 1 p.m. Sunday.
Light snow could start early Sunday morning but the strongest burst of the storm won’t hit until around 1 p.m., said FOX4 meteorologist Garry Frank in a weather update for The Star.
“You’re not going to wake up and see a ton of snow on the ground but gradually throughout the day that snow will pick up,” Frank said.
Freezing rain and sleet may impact Kansas City roads Sunday before transitioning to heavy snow, Frank said.
That snow is expected to stay in KC through Sunday evening and overnight, slowing down around 1 a.m.
Early Monday, around 4:30 a.m., Frank said he expects another round of heavy snow to hit Kansas City. That snow could affect morning commutes and stick around for much of the morning.
Over the course of the two days, Frank said, 5 to 7 inches of snow is possible in parts of the area.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said in a news release Saturday that they are preparing for the winter weather.
Abandoned vehicles will be towed away from Kansas highways starting at 6 a.m. Sunday so the Kansas Department of Transportation can more easily clear snow from the roads.
