Special flyover planned for Chiefs-Broncos game and former coach will be drum leader

There are a number of interesting aspects to Sunday’s Chiefs’ game.

The AFC West rival Broncos will be at Arrowhead Stadium for the game, which kicks off at noon and will be shown on CBS (KCTV-5). Denver’s starting quarterback is Drew Lock, the former Mizzou and Lee’s Summit High School star.

Snow is expected Sunday and former Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil will make a special visit.

Vermeil, who had a 44-36 record in five seasons (2001-05), will be on the drum deck, which is below the west scoreboard in the upper deck at Arrowhead Stadium. He will be banging the drum before kickoff.

Here is more information for fans heading to the game:

TRAFFIC: There is still construction around Arrowhead Stadium. You can find more here on how construction may affect a commute.

WEATHER FORECAST: There is a good chance of snow during the game. Here is what the National Weather Service tweeted:

You can read more here about the forecast for the game.

PARKING: Gates to the Truman Sports Complex open at 7 a.m. The Chiefs, as they’ve done all season, hope fans will buy parking passes in advance at chiefs.com/parking for $40 (red parking passes). According to the Chiefs, parking passes can be accessed via the team’s mobile app on Sunday. On gameday, the cost is $60 at tollgates and only cash will be accepted.

STADIUM GATES: The club-level gates will open at 9:30 a.m., all stadium gates open at 10 a.m. The NFL’s clear bag policy limits what can be brought int the stadium. Information on that policy can be found here.

FLYOVER/NATIONAL ANTHEM: If there isn’t an issue with the weather, the Chiefs said four “Fighting Falcon” F-16s, operated by personnel from Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina, are scheduled to perform a special pregame flyover at Arrowhead Stadium at the end of the national anthem. The 705th Military Police Battalion from Fort Leavenworth will be the color guard. Actress Jenna Lea Rosen will perform the national anthem.

HALFTIME PAINTING: Speed painter David Garibaldi will set up on the field and make a portrait of punter Dustin Colquitt, who is the Chiefs’ 2019 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominee. Colquitt will sign the painting and it will be auctioned with proceeds going to the charity TeamSmile.
