Kansas City Mavericks welcome Allen Americans to Cable Dahmer Arena this weekend
The Kansas City Mavericks capped 2024 with an impressive month of hockey and meaningful contributions to the community.
Currently occupying first place in the ECHL Mountain Division at 19-7-3-1, the Mavericks finished 9-1-2 in the month of December, solidifying themselves as one of the league’s top teams.
Teddy bears flood the ice
The Mavericks played host to their annual Teddy Bear Toss game against the Tulsa Oilers on Dec. 21.
Despite falling 5-0 and seeing their eight-game point streak snapped, the night was a success off the ice. More than 3,000 teddy bears were collected from fans for donation to Children’s Mercy and Operation Breakthrough.
More than 4,600 fans tossed stuffed animals onto the ice. After the game, those in attendance were invited down to the ice for a memorable postgame skate with Mavericks players.
Dominant road performance in Texas
After the holiday break, the Mavericks returned to action with back-to-back road games against the Allen Americans on Dec. 27 and 28 in Texas.
Kansas City dominated the first matchup with a decisive 5-2 victory. It was fueled by a three-goal first period that featured contributions from Nolan Sullivan and Damien Giroux, who scored twice.
The Mavericks followed that performance with a 4-2 win the next night to complete the sweep. Three goals in the third period, paired with steady goaltending from Victor Ostman, propelled KC to an impressive 15-3-1 road record.
Record crowd on New Year’s Eve
One of the largest crowds in franchise history turned out for the Mavericks’ New Year’s Eve game.
A standing-room-only crowd of about 5,800 fans packed Cable Dahmer Arena, creating an electric atmosphere from the opening puck-drop. The Mavericks gained a point in the standings but fell 4-3 in overtime to the Wichita Thunder.
Max Andreev highlighted the night by recording his 100th professional point, achieved with two assists. Casey Carreau, Cam Morrison and Jackson Berezowski scored for KC, but Wichita’s Mitchell Russell delivered the game-winner in OT.
After the game, fans rang in the new year with a postgame skate alongside the Mavericks players.
Up next for the Mavericks
The Mavericks are focused on maintaining their first-place position in the ECHL Mountain Division.
Their next home games are this Friday and Saturday against the Allen Americans at Cable Dahmer Arena.
Also coming up is the team’s Top Gun/Military Appreciation Night. Set for Saturday, Jan. 18, the evening will honor service members in the KC community.
