The NFL issued a warning to players in November 2024 that a South American crime ring could target the homes of well-know football players after Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were burglarized a month earlier.

That proved to be the case when seven men from Chile were charged last year with conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.

Two of those men, Ignacio Zuniga Cartes and Bastian Jimenez Freraut, were arrested in Argentina after reportedly joining others in burglarizing the home of former tennis star Juan Martín Del Potro, the Argentine newspaper Clarín reported.

The Clarín story said police used a traffic ticket issued in Buenos Aires to zero in on the men.

Mahomes’ house at Loch Lloyd was the first to be hit by the alleged thieves during their crime spree, according to Clarín, and Kelce’s Leawood home was burglarized the next day while the Chiefs were playing on “Monday Night Football.”

A second story on the Clarín website said police obtained a search warrant for one of the burglar’s iCloud accounts, “which contained photos of the watches stolen in Kansas, taken just two days after the incident. There were also photos and searches related to the second victim’s home.”

That would be Kelce’s house. Leawood police also said $20,000 in cash was taken from Kelce’s home. One month after Kelce’s house was burglarized, a watch belonging to him reportedly was found in Rhode Island.
