Kansas City Chiefs at Buffalo Bills: Live updates & commentary from NFL Week 9

The Patrick Mahomes vs. Lamar Jackson Week 4 matchup turned into a blowout. And Mahomes vs. Jayden Daniels didn’t happen last Monday because of an injury to the Commanders QB.

But how about Mahomes vs. Josh Allen, a quarterback matchup that features — almost inarguably — the NFL’s best two signal callers. And they’ve produced some classics in recent years.

Forget about just Chiefs fans, most NFL fans know exactly what you mean when you say “13 seconds.” And they definitely know the AFC playoff race tends to involve these teams meeting with a lot on the line.

For that, Chiefs (5-3) vs. Bills (5-2) is one of the biggest matchups of the regular season, and it’s hard to predict exactly how it’ll play out. (Certainly the national experts are split.)

Today’s afternoon kickoff awaits — here’s how to watch and listen.

Three storylines for Chiefs-Bills

1. Patrick Mahomes vs. Josh Allen

It might be the NFL’s best rivalry, even though it’s been a lopsided one in the playoffs. But the Bills at least have had the Chiefs’ number in the regular season, including such memorable finishes as last season’s “play of the year” scramble and the game in which the NFL audience was introduced to “offensive offsides.”

Put all that aside, and this should be a high-level game of football. Allen is off to another excellent start, with 17 total touchdowns to four interceptions. And Mahomes’ red-hot stretch has included something he’s doing better than any quarterback in football.

It doesn’t get any better than this QB showdown.

2. Andy Reid and fourth downs

Andy Reid has long been known for his offensive creativity, but he’s added a new element with his willingness to go for it on fourth down. That included early this season against the Eagles, and it continued in a big spot against the Lions.

Did you catch last week’s game? The Chiefs were again aggressive on fourth down — and successful at stopping them, too. All of a sudden, the Chiefs are owning the NFL’s new money down, and you’d expect that to come into play Sunday against the Bills.

3. These are two NFL powerhouses

Both of these teams entered Sunday as playoff teams, and both certainly have hopes to win their respective divisions — though they currently sit as wild-card squads. These are two Super Bowl contenders, and the stage is set for a hostile environment in Orchard Park, New York. Just ask Mahomes and Chris Jones.

Notably, the Chiefs should be able to put their best foot forward in this game. Trey Smith is expected back in the lineup, and Mahomes has had a full assortment of weapons in the passing game since the returns of Xavier Worthy (injury) and Rashee Rice (suspension).

Expect a good one Sunday afternoon. And a possible playoff — or maybe even AFC Championship Game — preview.
