Kansas City Chiefs vs. Washington Commanders: Live commentary & updates from MNF
It was one of the most anticipated prime-time matchups before the season. It’s not quite that anymore, but Chiefs fans will certainly tune in as Kansas City faces Washington on “Monday Night Football.”
Even without the injured Jayden Daniels, there’s plenty to watch in this matchup, including a possible Super Bowl contender hitting its stride in Kansas City.
The Chiefs have won four of five — the lone blemish a game they gave away at Jacksonville — and enter Monday as a double-digit favorite to make that five of six.
“Monday Night Football” awaits. Here’s how to watch and listen to tonight’s game.

Three storylines for Chiefs-Commanders
1. The Chiefs’ offensive line is shorthanded
On the bright side for the Kansas City offense is a run game that’s trending up thanks to the emergence of a versatile rookie and a short-yardage option more productive than the famed “Tush Push.” The receivers group has been bolstered (more on that in a moment) and Patrick Mahomes is back in front of the MVP odds.
But — and of course there’s a but — it’ll be a bit of musical chairs on the offensive line, with Josh Simmons’ continued absence and the latest news on Trey Smith, who is doubtful for this matchup. That group held up last week and will be tested again.
2. Bigger role for Rashee Rice
Chiefs fans got their first look at Rashee Rice in 2025 during Week 7’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders. His return, columnist Sam McDowell chronicled, empowered Mahomes to make a type of throw he hasn’t often made with several of his weapons out.
Rice played just 33 snaps — about 40%— in his first action this season. And the expectation is for that number to climb. Likewise, the Chiefs’ offense is starting to click, having scored 30-plus points in three of the last four weeks.
3. Getting back in the playoff picture
It’s a little early to start thinking about the playoffs, but without one of the big names in this matchup, let’s turn to the big picture. The Chiefs, for the first time this season, would hold down an AFC playoff spot with a win.
The Chiefs would tie the Chargers for the No. 6 seed — and sit a game back of the Patriots/Broncos for the second-best record in the AFC — with a victory. That’s a notable development considering Kansas City started this year 0-2 and was in a tough spot at 2-3 just a few weeks ago.
