Kansas City Chiefs vs. Las Vegas Raiders: Live commentary & updates from Week 7

The Kansas City Chiefs are double-digit favorites, and most national experts expect Sunday’s game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium to play out with a lopsided result.

But if nothing else, this game is worth watching for the return of Rashee Rice, who will give the Chiefs their best group of available wide receivers going back quite a bit — certainly at least to the Tyreek Hill/Sammy Watkins days.

Oh, and it’s Chiefs vs. Raiders, an AFC West rivalry that dates back decades. Not to mention the latest iteration of Patrick Mahomes vs. Maxx Crosby.

And the playoff implications: The Chiefs enter Sunday 3-3, but they’re just a game back of the Chargers (vs. Colts today) and Broncos (vs. Giants) in the division.

There’s plenty to follow in today’s game. Here’s how to watch and listen to Chiefs-Raiders.

Three storylines for Chiefs-Raiders

1. Rashee Rice returns from suspension

Rashee Rice gives the Chiefs another playmaker, but there’s more to this than Mahomes having another option in the passing game. Rice, Star columnist Sam McDowell detailed this week, is a perfect fit for the KC offense — and he’s done things when healthy no one in the NFL has matched.

Now, consider the following: The Chiefs have scored 28-plus points in three straight weeks, including two performances of 30-plus. The last time before that the Chiefs averaged 30-plus over a three-game stretch was Sept. 24-Oct. 8, 2023, and that’s only because they hit 41 points against the Bears.

Put another way, before last week, the Chiefs hadn’t scored 28 points in three straight games since the 2021 season. Mahomes’ top receiver that year? Hill.

The Chiefs could make it four straight games Sunday.

2. No Josh Simmons (again), but ...

... his replacement, Jaylon Moore, held up well in his first KC start against the Lions. That’s probably an understatement, actually. On the same day he woke up in the hospital (for a happy reason), Moore filled in at left tackle and was one of the highlights of the game.

With Josh Simmons unavailable for what coach Andy Reid referred to as a “family situation” and personal matter Friday, those on the KC sideline will hope Moore’s second act is every bit as good as his first.

3. Patrick Mahomes vs. Maxx Crosby — a real NFL rivalry

Chiefs-Raiders is a legitimate NFL rivalry, and there’s no greater current illustration than the ever-continuing Mahomes-Crosby saga. (Yes, even more than Kermit-the-Frog-gate from last offseason.)

We all watched on Netflix’s “Quarterback” as the competitors went at each other, with Mahomes taking exception to a late hit in the arm from Crosby. And while they continue to compete — and play close games — on the field, there’s clearly a level of respect off it, based on comments from both this week.
