Who national experts predict will win Las Vegas Raiders at KC Chiefs game
The Chiefs-Raiders rivalry dates back 65 years, and they will play for the 133rd time on Sunday, so yeah, there’s some history there.
Chiefs coach Andy Reid this week likened it to a college game.
“We also love having them come in here to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium,” Reid said. “We understand the rivalry and our fans really understand the rivalry, and they get after it. Our players understand that too, it’s a little bit of that college atmosphere to it where you’ve had a team that you’ve had a rivalry with for many years, and you feel privileged to be a part of that.”
The Chiefs lead the all-time series 75-55-2 and the latest chapter will be written Sunday. Kickoff is at noon and the game will air on KCTV (Ch. 5) in Kansas City and KWCH (Ch. 12) in Wichita.
Here is who 55 national experts are picking to win the game.
A 27-16 Chiefs victory is the prediction from the Associated Press’ Rob Maaddi. This is part of what he wrote: “The Chiefs are back after an 0-2 start, and looked like contenders in a convincing win over Detroit. Rashee Rice is returning to give Patrick Mahomes another playmaker.”
A 30-17 Chiefs win is the prediction from the Arizona Republic’s Jeremy Cluff. He wrote: “The Raiders ended a four-game skid in Week 6. Can they start a win streak in Week 7? Don’t count on it. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs got back on track in their win over the Lions.”
A 38-17 Chiefs victory is the prediction from the Sporting News’ Bill Bender. This is from his story: “The Raiders have suffered blowout losses to the Chargers and Colts, and the Chiefs might have turned a corner with the victory against the Lions. There is blowout potential here, too, especially if Kansas City can generate a few turnovers.”
A 28-20 Chiefs victory is the prediction from the Miami Herald’s Greg Cote. He wrote: “Decisive win against Detroit last Sunday night declared that Kansas City’s Super Bowl mojo is back, jack. Now Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes get WR Rashee Rice back from a six-game suspension. But these rivals’ last three meetings have been one-score games.”
The Chiefs are the pick for all five writers at NFL.com: Ali Bhanpuri (29-16 final score), Brooke Cersosimo (31-16), Dan Parr (31-18), Gennaro Filice (31-17) and Tom Blair (29-17). This is an excerpt of what Blair wrote: “The timing of this matchup, coming after a prime-time win over Detroit, lines up perfectly for the Chiefs to recreate a classic narrative thread from the latter days of the Patriots’ dynasty: look beatable in the early goings, then ease back into Super Bowl-contending shape. The Raiders have a few things going for them, including the presence of Ashton Jeanty and Maxx Crosby and, potentially, the absence of Josh Simmons on Kansas City’s O-line. But they’ve only beaten the Andy Reid-coached Chiefs four times in 24 previous tries.”
Going with KC are the eight writers at CBS Sports: Pete Prisco, Ryan Wilson, Cody Benjamin, Jared Dubin, John Breech, Tyler Sullivan, Dave Richard and Jamey Eisenberg. Prisco thinks the Chiefs prevail 35-20. This is from his story: “The Chiefs are big favorites here for a reason. They are getting the offense cranked up and will have Rashee Rice back to add to it. The Raiders have defensive issues, which Patrick Mahomes will use to his advantage.”
The Chiefs will win, say all 10 Dallas Morning-News members: Tim Cowlishaw, Joey Hayden, Joseph Hoyt, Damon Marx, Craig Miller, Newy Scruggs, Calvin Watkins, Abraham Nudelstejer, Dana Larson and Kevin Sherrington.
The Chiefs are the choice for the 11 ESPN experts: Stephania Bell, Mike Clay, Dan Graziano, Kalyn Kahler, Moses Moody, Lindsey Thiry, Matt Bowen, Jeremy Fowler, Pamela Maldonado, Jason Reid and Seth Wickersham.
Both Rich Gannon and Bruce Murray of SiriusXM see the Chiefs winning.
Picking the Chiefs are the seven Sports Illustrated writers: Albert Breer, Clare Brennan, Mitch Goldich, Conor Orr, John Pluym, Gilberto Manzano and Matt Verderame.
The Chiefs are the pick for the six USA Today writers: Jarrett Bell (31-22 final score), Nick Brinkerhoff (31-13), Chris Bumbaca (25-19), Nate Davis (33-17), Tyler Dragon (30-20) and Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz (35-20).
A Chiefs’ win is the forecast from both Pro Football Talk writers. Mike Florio has KC winning 34-17, while Chris Simms sees it being 30-17.
