Chiefs shore up defensive line by re-signing this run-stopping tackle to 1-year deal
Defensive tackle Mike Pennel will be back with the Chiefs this fall.
The team announced Monday that it has re-signed the 33-year-old to a one-year deal, a source told The Star.
Pennel, 33, will be back for his third straight year and fifth overall with the Chiefs. The 11-year pro also has spent time with the Packers, Jets, Falcons and Bears.
Last season, Pennel played in all 17 regular-season games and recorded a career-best three sacks.
The Topeka, Kansas native originally joined the Chiefs in 2019 for a two-year stint. A run-stopping specialist, he has since appeared in 13 playoff games and won two Super Bowl rings.
The deal continues the Chiefs’ stretch of shoring up the defensive line. Last last week, they re-signed tackle Charles Omenihu. Earlier, they signed tackle Jerry Tillery to a one-year deal.
Tillery played for the Minnesota Vikings last season after spending his first five NFL seasons with the Chargers and one with the Raiders.
