Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy’s ex-fiancee Tia Jones files for temporary protective order

Tia Jones, Xavier Worthy’s ex-fiancee, says she filed for and received a temporary protective order against the Kansas City Chiefs receiver.

Jones released a statement through four attorneys that Austin TV station KVUE news anchor Cory Mose obtained Wednesday. In it, they refer to Friday’s incident in Williamson County, Texas, where Worthy was initially arrested in suspicion of assault of a family member by impeding breathing/circulation before the Williamson County district attorney declined to press immediate charges.

The four lawyers for Jones — Angelica Cogliano, Addy Miró, Leslie Booker and Deniz Kadirhan — said in the statement that Jones submitted her application “based (on) his violent actions against her” while also saying Jones was fully cooperating with law enforcement.

Williamson County court records show Jones filed for the temporary protective order on Wednesday.

“Ms. Jones has chosen to use her voice to speak up for herself,” the statement read. “In doing so, she looks forward to the facts and circumstances of that night coming to light through the formal legal process, and getting the justice that she deserves.”

Worthy was arrested in Williamson County, which is located in central Texas just north of Austin. The 21-year-old previously attended the University of Texas at Austin for three years.

American-Statesman columnist Cedric Golden obtained a statement from Worthy’s lawyers Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett on Saturday. Lewis and Bassett said they were working with Williamson County law enforcement to ensure they understood the “totality of the circumstances” that led to the allegation against Worthy.

“The complainant was recently asked to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of her infidelity,” Lewis and Bassett wrote in their statement. “She has refused to do so and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy.”

Lewis and Bassett said they would continue cooperating with Williamson County authorities while believing an investigation would “support Mr. Worthy’s innocence.”

Williamson County district attorney Shawn Dick told the American-Statesman last week that after speaking with some witnesses, his office chose not to press charges against Worthy.

“We will continue to evaluate the case,” Dick told the American-Statesman. “As is our practice with all declines, should you develop additional information indicative of probable cause in this case, our office will consider that information and may present the case at that time to a Williamson County Grand Jury.”

The Chiefs traded up to select Worthy with the 28th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He was one of the team’s biggest standouts during his rookie campaign, which included an eight-catch, 157-yard performance with two touchdowns in KC’s Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Jones, 24, has gained fame as a professional track and field athlete who specializes in hurdles and short sprints.
