With Chiefs, Eagles nearing Super Bowl rematch, here’s how ticket prices are trending

Last year’s Super Bowl, like this one, was a rematch of recent participants. But that didn’t stop the game from carrying the largest average price tag in the event’s history.

Super Bowl LIX between the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, the same matchup as two years ago, is another contest of familiar opponents.

But ticket sales and prices for this particular pairing, unlike last year’s, were seeing a downward late-week trend that extended into game day.

By noon on Sunday, about 5 1/2 hours before kickoff, the get-in price according to Ticketmaster — which is the NFL’s official ticket broker — was $2,250.

On Vividseats.com., the get-in price for a seat in the upper reaches of the Caesars Superdome was $1,936.

On Saturday morning, the average ticket price was $6,400, according to TickPick.com. A year ago, the average ticket price was a record $9,100.

Why the drop?

Consider the advantages of last year’s event. Pop superstar Taylor Swift was attending her first Super Bowl to watch boyfriend and Chiefs superstar tight end Travis Kelce. And the game was in Las Vegas, with its additional attractions, for the first time.

New Orleans, hosting its 11th Super Bowl, isn’t quite the same draw.

Is there Chiefs fatigue at play, too? Kansas City — bidding for the first Super Bowl three-peat in history — is in the game for the third straight season and will have played in five of the last six Super Bowls.

Some 15% of the ticket buyers for this year’s Super Bowl through StubHub.com were from Pennsylvania while 8.4% were from Missouri and Kansas, the ticket reseller reported.

According to TickPick, about 2,900 tickets remained on the secondary market Saturday.
