How much does it cost to fly to New Orleans for the Super Bowl? See some of the deals
The Kansas City Chiefs are headed to their fifth Super Bowl in six years, this time in New Orleans.
Even if you don’t have tickets to the match against the Philadelphia Eagles, you can watch the game Sunday, Feb. 9.
But if you decide to make the trek to New Orleans in person, it won’t be easy — or cheap.
On Sunday night, Southwest Airlines announced they added 19 new nonstop flights between Kansas City and New Orleans before and after the Super Bowl. United Airlines added flights as well, and said their flight numbers reference the Chiefs, including 1972 for the first game at Arrowhead Stadium and 2639, which spells out “Andy.”
Driving from Kansas City to New Orleans would take about 13 hours, without stops or traffic. You can choose between passing through Little Rock, Arkansas, or Memphis, Tennessee, on your way to the Saints’ Caesars Superdome.
The Star calculated the cheapest plane tickets to and from Las Vegas flying on Friday, Feb. 7, and Tuesday, Feb. 11, using Google Flights and individual airline websites. Flying on these days leaves you one full day before and after the Super Bowl, though ticket prices could be cheaper if you leave earlier or later.
Prices are current as of Jan. 27 and include fees and a carry-on bag.

After adding flights, United Airlines has the cheapest airfare according to Google Flights. $470 will get you flights to New Orleans and back, with layovers on both legs.
Southwest still has some economy-level “Wanna Get Away” flights available after adding more flights. A nonstop flight on the way to New Orleans and a layover on the way back will set you back $596 and includes complimentary checked bags.
If you want to take in some southern scenery and save a bit on airfare, you could fly through the Baton Rouge or Gulfport-Biloxi Airports and drive to New Orleans. Both are about 1 hour and 20 minutes from the stadium, without traffic.
A round trip through Gulfport is $369 on American, with layovers both ways. Going through Baton Rouge costs $288, with layovers both ways. Car rental fees and gas could add to the cost.
