The Chiefs are heading to New Orleans, and so are we. Here’s how to get involved

I’ve spent most of January in a state of limbo.

The powers that be at The Star decided early this month that if the Chiefs won the AFC Championship, they would be sending me to New Orleans, where the Super Bowl takes place Feb. 9. I’d write about the scene down there: the fans, the food, the parties, the whole lead-up to the big game. Nice little reporting gig.

Ultimately, though, I didn’t know if it would actually happen. I booked a flight, found a place to stay and started doing advance work in preparation for the trip. But the Chiefs had a few games to win first.

They beat the Texans last week. On to the next round.

The Bills were a different animal. A very good football team. Scary, even. It seemed very possible that Josh Allen would crush my dreams of getting paid to spend two weeks in one of America’s finest cities.

But he did not. The Chiefs got it done Sunday night. Personally, I’d give the game ball to defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Some big stops toward the end there.

So, my plans are now set: I’m headed to New Orleans for Chiefs vs. Eagles for a series we’re calling Chiefs in The Big Easy. And I would like your help.

Are you headed to New Orleans for the game? Know any interesting KC ex-pats living down there? Restaurant or bar recommendations? Drop me a line.

I have a rental car, I’m staying in the Marigny, and I am eager to talk to anybody who can supply me with interesting stories to write about.

I leave Wednesday. Talk soon.
