Snow mounds on the sides of Kansas City highways and roads are slowly melting ahead of the Chiefs’ playoff showdown Saturday, which is expected to kick off in frigid temperatures.

Most roads have been clear of snow for over a week since the blizzard hit on Jan. 5, but how does the snow situation look at Arrowhead Stadium ahead of the AFC divisional playoff game between the Houston Texans and the Kansas City Chiefs?

The answer is simple: one of the NFL’s oldest stadiums has been cleared of snow as of Friday, and is ready to host rowdy fans for the Chiefs’ first playoff game of the season.

Team officials said snow removal efforts started early this week.

While snow will still be seen on the side of the roads, parking areas are already prepared for the flurry of excited tailgating fans.

Game day weather

Snow will be minimal on game day, but fans should bundle up for the game as temperatures are expected to be in the mid-20s across the metro on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. The wind chill will be around 10 degrees with gusty winds up to 25 mph.

It’s a steep temperature drop after Thursday and Friday gave the area the warmest temperatures of the year, with Friday’s temperatures reaching the low 50s.

To assist fans braving the cold, warming stations will be available and fans are allowed to bring blankets and a piece of cardboard into the stadium to sit on.
