Chiefs announce cold-weather items fans can bring Saturday, locations of warming stations
Fortunately for Kansas City fans, the NFL chose to have the Chiefs play their AFC Divisional playoff game against the Texans on Saturday rather than Sunday.
The high temperature Sunday is expected to be just 14 degrees, the National Weather Service said. Saturday will be better, but it’s still going to be quite cold.
KCTV-5 meteorologist Melissa Meeder’s wrote this about Saturday’s game: “As we move into the afternoon for tailgating and the big game, temperatures fall to the lower 20s and upper teens along with gusty winds up to 25 mph. This will lead to feel-like temperatures through the time of the game between 5° and 10°, which is rather dangerous if you are exposed to these types of conditions during the game.”
The Chiefs shared plans for helping fans deal with the frigid weather and encouraged anyone at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium to cover all exposed skin.
Here is what fans may bring to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium to stay warm for Saturday’s game, via the team:
- Blankets (without zippers or compartments) which must be draped over the shoulder of a fan during the security screening process
One factory-sealed bottle of water (20 ounces or less)
A piece of cardboard (no larger than 3 foot by 5 foot)
- Portable chargers and non-dry cell batteries (both not larger than 6 inches by 3 inches by 1 1/2 inches) for use with heated apparel
This is what the Chiefs wrote about the latter: “Battery packs must be disconnected during security inspection, may not have visual damage or imperfections and may not use power adapters or other wiring modifications.”
Warming stations
The Chiefs said warming trailers will be located in the Truman Sports Complex for fans who are tailgating. They’ll be on the medians between Lot C and Lot D, as well as between Lot F and Lot G. There also will be one at the southwest corner of Lot A.
Warming stations will be set up inside Arrowhead Stadium in nine spots:
- One each at the bottom of each of the four Field Level spirals
- Ones near the Jim Beam (north) and Crown Royal (south) bars on the Upper Level
- One each near the Red Zones on the east and west sides of the Upper Level
- One at Champions Tailgate North on the Plaza Level near T-Mobile Gate
