There’s no arguing with this one: The game of the NFL regular season is today, and that would be the case even if the Chiefs weren’t a perfect 9-0, the NFL’s lone unbeaten team, entering the weekend.

No team has played the Kansas City Chiefs better than the Buffalo Bills, who have met Patrick Mahomes’ squad a whopping seven times since 2020.

The result? The Chiefs are 4-3, with three playoff wins — but I don’t need to tell you how close two of those playoff games have been. Like, 13 seconds and wide-right field goal, close.

Today’s game will be broadcast at 3:25 p.m. Central on CBS, KCTV5 in Kansas City. In Wichita, the game will be on Channel 12. You can listen on radio via KFNZ (96.5 FM) and WDAF (106.5 FM) in the KC area, and KNSS (98.7 FM) around Wichita.

Three storylines for Chiefs-Bills

This is the game of the season ...

There’s no questioning all eyeballs will be on this matchup. In what has become one of the NFL’s best rivalries, as The Star’s Blair Kerkhoff noted, two of the league’s best quarterbacks and teams go head-to-head.

CBS is treating this one like a playoff game, too. The top broadcast crew will be on the call. The “NFL Today” desk will be at Highmark Stadium ... and this game was even part of a special preseason request from CBS.

This is big-time football.

... but injuries are piling up

And for KC, they’re at different — albeit crucial — positions.

The Kansas City Chiefs are down a kicker, which no one should take for granted in a Chiefs-Bills game. The Chiefs secured a win in the last meeting on a missed field goal and sent the 13-seconds game to overtime on a last-second regulation kick.

Oh, and Chiefs fans will also be watching the left tackle spot. Wanya Morris’ injury last week exposed a major depth issue at his position. Can Morris hold up against the Bills?

This is the big test

If the Chiefs win on Sunday, talks of an undefeated season are going to get loud. The Chiefs are 9-0, and we can argue about whether or not they should be (or whether or not it’s a good thing), but the game at Buffalo certainly represents the hardest remaining contest this regular season.

It’s not a cakewalk even after Sunday, with the Texans, Steelers and three divisional games remaining. But if the Chiefs win this one, they certainly won’t be underdogs again until they lose a game ... unless it’s a potential Super Bowl matchup.

More Kansas City Chiefs coverage

  • Does it seem like Chiefs opponents have been beating themselves of late? Well, there could be some psychology behind that. Star columnist Vahe Gregorian spoke to a sports psychologist to ask: Are the Chiefs living rent-free in opponents’ heads?
  • Where would the Chiefs be without DeAndre Hopkins? Patrick Mahomes and the offense are trending up, and the Chiefs needed a jolt after three injuries to the receiver group. Here’s why (and how) KC made that move happen.
  • The Chiefs believe Xavier Worthy could be on the verge of a breakout performance. Read about what Mahomes called Worthy’s “steady progressions” from beat writer Jesse Newell.
