Final Chiefs injury report before Super Bowl lists one offensive starter as out

Chiefs guard Joe Thuney had been hopeful about playing in Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII against the San Francisco 49ers.

It won’t happen.

Thuney was listed as out by the Chiefs on the team’s final injury report, released Friday, because of a pectoral injury he suffered in the Divisional Round game against the Buffalo Bills.

Thuney had started in 18 straight postseason games before the injury, including four years with the New England Patriots. He had been hopeful of a recovery in the days leading up to the game, telling reporters he was “taking it day by day.”

Veteran reserve Nick Allegretti will get the start on Sunday. Allegretti played all 81 offensive snaps in the Chiefs’ victory over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game. He also started Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Wide receiver Rashee Rice, who was a limited practice participant at Thursday’s practice because of an ankle injury, was a full participant on Friday.

Also listed as out, however, is reserve offensive lineman Prince Tega Wanogho. He appeared in three games this season.

The Chiefs also will be without a defensive regular because of injury. End Charles Omenihu suffered a torn ACL against the Ravens.
