Why Chiefs’ Mahomes hit big passes vs. Miami: ESP, a slick route & zone-crushing call

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had five explosive passes — 20-plus yards each — in KC’s 26-7 home playoff victory over the Miami Dolphins on Saturday night.

In this video, KC Star reporter Jesse Newell and Brett Taveau (author of the Chiefs book “Unpacking Greatness” and a longtime high school offensive coordinator) look at what KC did to open up space for three of those throws to Travis Kelce, Noah Gray and Rashee Rice.

A review of the film shows the Chiefs going back to some of their favorite passing concepts ... while also being helped by good instincts, a clever route and an assist from the big men up front.
