Why a Chiefs tight end — not named Travis Kelce — is breaking out with KC’s offense

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Noah Gray scored two touchdowns — making it four in two games — in KC’s 30-27 road victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

In this video, KC Star reporter Jesse Newell and Brett Taveau (author of the Chiefs book “Unpacking Greatness” and a longtime high school offensive coordinator) take a closer look at details from Gray’s standout effort against the Panthers.

It certainly seems the Chiefs coaches are trusting him more. Gray ran some routes typically reserved for teammate Travis Kelce, with KC looking to see what he could do as more of a focal point offensively.

Gray also helped the Chiefs win by mastering important fundamentals; that included cleverly setting up an inside route to beat man coverage and also getting leverage to push around defenders outweighing him by 50 pounds (or more).
