Patrick Mahomes flu game? Kansas City Chiefs QB on injury report vs. Denver Broncos

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was added to the team’s injury report Sunday morning with an illness. He did not have a game-status designation, so he’s expected to play in Sunday’s 3:25 p.m. Central road game against the Denver Broncos.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Mahomes “has been battling the flu” but felt better Sunday than Saturday. The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, meanwhile, reported that Mahomes had received IVs each of the last two days.

Mahomes doesn’t miss games often. The last one he sat out was a Jan. 3, 2021 contest against the Los Angeles Chargers when the Chiefs had already clinched the AFC’s No. 1 seed with a 14-1 record.

The Chiefs’ announcement seemed to have a small immediate impact on the game’s betting line, as within an hour the Chiefs moved from 7-point to 6 1/2-point favorites over the Broncos in some sports books.

The 6-1 Chiefs will face the 2-5 Broncos at Denver’s Empower Field at Mile High on CBS.
