While the Kansas City Chiefs are preparing to test their newest players in the regular season, Arrowhead Stadium concession stands have added a few rookies as well — mostly in the form of barbecue.

Here’s a guide so fans at the first game (7:20 p.m. Sept. 7 vs. the Detroit Lions) and beyond can make a menu game plan.

New barbecue at Arrowhead

SMOAK Craft Barbecue, founded in Olathe in 2020, created the “Big Red Sandwich,” with sliced brisket, coffee-brined pork, sauce and cheese on a toasted brioche bun. The menu item is, of course, affectionately named after Coach Andy Reid himself.

Barbecue caterer Chef J created a loaded barbecue tater tot dish for fans, topped with brisket, cheddar sauce, crema and fresh onion.

Another hefty menu item: a pound of cheeseburger fries, topped with hamburger meat, tomatoes and cheese.

What’s new on the club level (more BBQ)

A bone-in rib sandwich is slathered in sauce and topped with onion straws. (It’s $26; other prices weren’t available).

The Tailgater Dog is a foot-long beef hot dog topped with Flamin’ Hot Cheetos.

Elote nachos come with pico de gallo, cotija cheese and green onions.

NEW SELF-CHECKOUT TECHNOLOGY

The Kingdom Grill (section 127) concession stand is now cashier-free.

First, fans tap or insert their cards before walking through a concessions gate. Cameras inside scan the items fans pick up and charge their cards.

Once customers are through, they’re given a QR code with a digital version of their receipt.

Similar self-checkout technology can be found at the Flame Grill Market (section 223), Kingdom Markets (sections 201, 208, 218, 231 and 241) and Kingdom Classics stands (sections 101 and 118).

“The operation here is massive — 76,0000-plus people coming to a game,” said Matt Kenny, executive president of Arrowhead operations and events. “We’re always looking at how we can improve.”

Self-service alcohol stands, called “Walk Thru Brus,” can be found in sections 129, 310 and 333.
